New Campaign Launches to Stop Republicans from Betraying Working Families by Giving Tax Cuts to Billionaires and Big Corporations

Eight-figure Families Over Billionaires campaign will include paid media, rapid response, surrogate operations, and grassroots mobilization to hold Republicans accountable for trying to slash taxes for the wealthy and corporations at the expense of working families

Team of seasoned communications, digital, policy, and political operatives form campaign war room to highlight what’s at stake for the American people in the 2025 tax fight and lift voices from the broad, bipartisan majority of voters who oppose tax giveaways for the rich

Washington, D.C. – With the 2025 tax debate kicking into high-gear, a team of seasoned communications, digital, policy, and political operatives are launching a new campaign, in partnership with major labor unions, grassroots advocates, and other organizations, to prevent President Trump and Congressional Republicans from betraying their promises to working people by handing out trillions in tax giveaways to billionaires and big corporations.

The campaign war room – Families Over Billionaires — will coordinate efforts across numerous national and local partner organizations to highlight what’s at stake for working families in the 2025 tax debate and lift up the voices of the broad and bipartisan coalition of Americans who oppose giving more tax cuts to the rich. The eight-figure effort will include paid media, rapid response, surrogate operations, and grassroots mobilization to hold Republicans accountable for trying to cut taxes for the wealthy and corporations at the expense of working families.

“The Families Over Billionaires campaign is launching to ensure Republicans are held accountable for their reckless plans to make life harder for tens of millions of families by slashing vital services — from childhood nutrition to health care to school funding — all to give massive tax breaks to their billionaire donors,” said Michael Linden, Director of Families over Billionaires. “We will lead the charge to stop these dangerous proposals. But, if Republicans move forward with these incredibly unpopular and harmful policies, we will make sure the American people know whose side their elected leaders are on.”

“This debate isn’t just about tax policy — it’s about who you think makes this country great: Billionaires, or hardworking people trying to provide healthcare for their families and put food on their table. We know where the American people stand,” said Shalanda Young, Former Director of the Office of Management and Budget. “But it’s on all of us to make the case — and to fight for an economy that works for working people, not just those at the very top.”

“For me, politics has never been about left or right, it’s about whose side you’re on. That’s what this fight will come down to,” said Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH). “Are you fighting for the people who make this country work, or more handouts for the wealthy and the largest corporations? We must make that contrast clear.”

“If you’re using the words ‘moderate,’ ‘progressive,’ or ‘conservative,’ you’re missing the whole f***ing point. Real people don’t think that way, and neither should politicians,” said Congressman Pat Ryan (D-NY). “Every day, we need to make it clear who fights FOR THE PEOPLE and who fights for corrupt elites.”

“This fight is about families and workers, and the people who get up every day to make our communities and country a little bit stronger. It’s about Congress deciding whose side they are on,” said April Verrett, SEIU President. “Billionaires and corporate special interests do not get to say what’s best for America. That’s why SEIU is powering the Families Over Billionaires campaign to ensure the needs of American working families remain front and center in any tax and budget debate that Congress takes up.”

After campaigning on a promise to lower costs for the middle class, Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are wasting no time betraying the working class voters who helped put them in office. On the heels of a Draconian spending freeze that could cripple government operations and leave families out in the cold, Republicans’ have made one of their top legislative priorities in 2025 to cut taxes for their billionaires donors, special interests, and giant corporations.

Congressional Republicans plan to pay for these massive giveaways to the ultra-wealthy by jacking up costs on hardworking families, cutting Medicare and Medicaid, and gutting investments in the middle class. These new plans are even worse than the Republicans’ 2017 tax cuts – which were a failure by every metric. Despite an endless parade of promises to the contrary, they didn’t spur economic growth or trickle down to working families.

About the Families Over Billionaires Campaign

Families Over Billionaires will serve as a centralized war room for the tax fight, helping coordinate among partner organizations including labor unions, grassroots organizers, and leaders and advocates from all across the country. The campaign will provide overarching strategic direction, generate and deploy resources to bolster partner efforts, and create a rapid response operation to elevate key moments and issues.

The campaign will highlight what’s at stake for working families in the 2025 tax debate and lift up the voices of the broad and bipartisan coalition of Americans who oppose giving more tax cuts to the rich. We will do this by engaging directly with voters across the country in their communities, on their TVs and radios, and across social media. And we will provide those voters with many opportunities to make their opposition to tax breaks for the wealthy known to their elected representatives.
