Republicans Feeling the Heat: What Members of Congress are Seeing on the Ground This Recess

Washington, D.C. – This recess, House Republicans are facing mounting pressure as Americans across the country demand they reject the billionaire-first budget proposal advancing through Congress. These policies aren’t popular, which is why so many Republicans are sounding the alarm about the backlash they’ll face.

From town halls to protests, House Republicans are feeling the heat this week. Select examples below from the dozens of events occurring nationwide:

“Protesters also say they’re against President Donald Trump’s cuts to the federal government and Elon Musk’s role with the administration. […]

“Protesters told News 12 they don’t want LaLota to support cuts they believe will negatively impact Long Islanders.”

“Could Medicaid be on the chopping block? To help pay for tax cuts, House Republicans are considering cutting funding for the federal safety net program. Today a rally was held outside a local Congressman’s office calling for a no vote on this plan. […] Now many fear [Medicaid], which covers 80 million Americans, may be on its last leg. Signs, signals, and pleas outside Congressman Ryan Mackenzie’s S Cedar Crest office.”

“The largest public health insurance program in the US now hanging in the balance as House Republicans now advocate for significant budget cuts. Health care workers, patients, community advocates, as well – they’re set to mobilize to stop Medi-Cal cuts here in California […] Folks from Riverside county are coming together to defend health care access and urge Representative Ken Calvert to stand with them.”

“Residents and health care providers voiced their concerns against potential cuts to the Medicaid program here in California known as Medi-Cal. During a townhall on Tuesday night at the Rasmussen senior center in Oildale, patients and health care workers spoke out about how cuts to the taxpayer funded programs could affect health care for many in Kern County and they’re calling on Congressman David Valadao to oppose any proposed cuts.”

“The community is concerned. That’s the other thing we’re here to show you, is we are all concerned. This is way above party. This is way above politics. This is our democracy, this is the USA and everything that we stand for. The things that President Carter and all the presidents before have fought so hard for are being dismantled by people who only want to put money in their pocket and have control.”

“Protesters also voiced concerns about the influence of billionaire Elon Musk, who has played an increasingly prominent role in shaping federal policy, particularly with cost-cutting measures that some fear will negatively impact social services.”
