Washington, D.C. – Following Senate passage of their Billionaire Tax Scam budget framework, Families Over Billionaires Director Michael Linden released the following statement:
“As Donald Trump crashes the economy and raises costs for everyday Americans, Senate Republicans just voted to kick millions of Americans off their health insurance and let children go hungry, all to pay for trillions in tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy.
Senate Republicans themselves have admitted that their framework includes massive cuts to Medicaid – risking coverage for nearly 80 million Americans – yet they voted for it anyway. During the vote on their plan, Republicans made clear whose side they are on as nearly every Senate Republican voted AGAINST amendments that would protect Medicaid from cuts and ensure billionaires pay their pay share.
Despite widespread and bipartisan opposition to giving more tax breaks to the wealthy at the expense of essential programs, Republicans are ignoring their own constituents and doubling down on a toxic agenda that throws working families under the bus. But, this is just the first step in the process, and we will keep fighting to stop this harmful agenda alongside the millions of Americans who oppose Republicans’ Billionaire Tax Scam.”
